College Entrance Requirements

If students intend to enroll in a UC (University of California) or a CSU (California State University) upon graduation from High School then it is essential to understand the requirements that need to be met.

For most 2 year colleges and other post-high school pathways, meeting the 220 credits required by VCUSD for a VCUSD High School Diploma should be enough for students to meet the entrance requirements.

However, for a University of California (UC) or a California State University (CSU) there are additional requirements that must be met. Please review the link below. Please note that ALL courses must be passed with a “C” grade or better if they are going to count for UC or CSU admission.

Can I Take College Courses in High School?

Yes, in addition to the classes listed in the course catalog, students can take courses at a local college.

However, there are several restrictions regarding which courses can be taken, and the basic rule is that if the course is offered by VCUSD already, then a student cannot take that course at a College instead of taking that Course at the High School. Additionally, if a student is planning on pursuing an athletic scholarship, or wishes to compete in athletics at the college level then there are specific requirements that must be met as well. These requirements may NOT necessarily match the VCUSD requirements, so please review the lists of required courses in the link below.
